MiraJane dress HACK – Adding a puffed sleeve

MiraJane dress HACK – Adding a puffed sleeve

The MiraJane dress pattern is initially a fairly basic and simple dress design but I think that's what makes it so versatile. From lengthening or shortening the skirt to adding for example a simple elastic puffed sleeve instead of straps.
What do you think if we see how to add the lantern sleeve that we have in our 01 sleeve pack to give a different look to the dress?

Let’s see how to go from the original strapless dress pattern to the same model but with sleeves. As it is a strapless dress, it will be necessary that the lantern sleeve has elastic on the shoulder so that it can be well fastened to the body.

We will use this lantern sleeve from our sleeve pack 01. This variation with elastic is explained in a Youtube video and is perfect for strapless bodies.

Fitting the back neckline

By introducing a sleeve in the design the body will be tighter in the back so it is important to make a small adjustment in the back neckline.
Follow the steps in the chart below to make the adjustment.

Easy, right?

Now you can add the sleeve!!

Basically we will join the sleeve at the armpit area. We are going to take as a reference the whole armpit line we have on the dress and we will sew the sleeve in that area.
We will sew the rest of the sleeve crown with the elastic band so that it fits in the shoulder area.

To sew the underarm area you can use an overlock seam or cover the seam with a bias tape.

And with this our strapless dress has become a beautiful dress with sleeves.

See you soon!
