MiraJane dress HACK – Dress into a blouse
This is not the first time I've made a hack of this dress pattern. I recently explained to you how to add an elastic puffed sleeve instead of straps. Now let's see how we can take advantage of the dress pattern to make a very simple and pretty blouse.
First of all you can forget about the skirt pieces, we will only need the upper body pieces. See how your blouse will look like.
I’m going to explain the small adjustment you need to make on the back body. You can leave the blouse with straps or add a sleeve following the steps I explained in the other tutorial.
First you should adapt the length of the back to match the length of the front.
The body is already modified!
A very simple way to create blouses in patterns that end at or near the waistline as in this case is to add a small half-circular ruffle at the bottom.
The construction of the upper body does not change with respect to the dress, so we simply sew the ruffle and insert it along the bottom line.
Cut two pieces for the front and two pieces for the back.
Place the two ruffle pieces right sides together and stitch a seam allowane along the bottom and sides. Do it in front and back pieces separately.
Turn the pieces over.
Sew the side seam.
Now you can insert the ruffle to the bottom of the blouse!!
Have you seen what an easy way to reuse patterns? The best part is that by using the ruffle method you can even create another type of dress with a flounced skirt. The only thing you would have to do is to use a longer ruffle!!
